The Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) is the gateway to engineering and pharmacy colleges in Maharashtra. Conducted by the State CET Cell, it is one of India's largest state-level engineering entrance exams with over 4.22 lakh PCM candidates in 2025 alone.
Unlike NEET (single shift, no normalization) or JEE Main (percentile-normalized), MHT CET uses a shift-based normalization process identical to JEE Main. Since the exam is held in multiple shifts over 7–9 days, raw marks from different difficulty shifts are equated to produce a final percentile score. Your rank is derived entirely from this percentile — raw marks don't directly determine rank.
MHT CET scores are accepted by 400+ engineering colleges across Maharashtrathrough the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) conducted by the State CET Cell. The most sought-after colleges — VJTI Mumbai, COEP Pune, ICT Mumbai, and Walchand Sangli — require 99+ percentile for CSE/IT. Seats fill up in Round 1 itself for these institutions.
Adjusts raw marks based on shift difficulty. A student who scored 120 on a tough shift may get the same normalized percentile as someone who scored 130 on an easy shift — correctly reflecting equal ability.
It doesn't change your relative rank within a shift. The hardest-working students in any shift still get the highest percentiles. Normalization only adjusts for inter-shift difficulty differences.
After MHT CET results, the State CET Cell conducts Centralized Admission Process (CAP) for all government, aided, and unaided engineering colleges. Understanding how CAP works is as important as scoring well.
